Anasi Academy

Anasi is an Arabic name for boys and girls that comes from the word “anees” describing “a friend who brings peace of mind”. This concept of being in good company has inspired the creation of Anasi Academy, a faith-based microschool, in The Woodlands, TX.

Who We Are

Lead Teacher, Mrs. Raya M. Ed

Mrs. Raya is a Texas-certified teacher and graduated from the University of Texas with a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership.

Since 2010, Raya has been teaching in private schools and institutions in several countries, such as Germany, Malaysia, Qatar and the United States. Besides teaching in brick-and-mortar schools, both large and very small class sizes of all ages and levels, she provides years of experience in online education, blended learning, and homeschooling programs. She is a mother of three boys and happily married to her husband who is Egyptian-American.

A personal note from Mrs. Raya:

I am so excited to facilitate your child’s learning in a microschool environment that honors our Islamic beliefs and values because I believe this to be the best setting for children to thrive academically, spiritually and socially. My teaching philosophy is based on the belief that every student can succeed with the right guidance, motivation and personalized support. In a world full of confusing influences, what growing Muslim children need most is a safe environment to develop a solid Muslim identity. Combined with strong academic and social skills, our children are prepared to lead the next generations to come, inshaAllah.

Frequently Asked Questions

Microschools cater to families who are seeking alternatives to the public and traditional private school systems. Students are considered homeschoolers however, they receive their instruction in a smaller, structured setting guided by a teacher, rather than at home by their parent, although their parent ultimately has the final say in how/what their child learns and our teachers are to serve as guides/supports to families.

We have 4 day, 3 day and 2 day options (Monday-Thursday). Classes meet for four hours per day, 8:30-12:30. The school year is 36 weeks and begins August 26th, for the Fall semester we have one week off during the Thanksgiving holiday and two weeks off for Winter break. The timeline for the Spring semester is to be announced in the Fall.

Our program runs 4 days per week 4 hours per day however, we do have the ability if there is enough interest, to run an extended day until 3:30 for families who opt-into it four days per week.

Tuition goes towards paying for the operating of a facility,  highly qualified teaching staff and carefully selected curriculum materials, learning experiences and supplies.

15217 Sunset Trail, The Woodlands, TX 77384
with additional locations coming to Clear Lake and Katy.

In the beginning of the year you will have a goal-setting conference with your teacher to discuss your child’s specific needs and your goals for them.  Your teacher will send quarterly progress reports home and assess students regularly to check for skill mastery and understanding.  You also have the ability as a homeschool parent to opt-in for standardized testing, which we can help facilitate for you. Parents are welcome to meet with the teachers at any time and we encourage parent involvement.

Children who attend microschools are technically considered homeschoolers. Whether homeschoolers receive instruction from their parent or a private teacher, evidence shows that they can achieve much more in a much shorter period of time with dedicated, personalized learning. Consistent progress monitoring can help reassure you that they are on track.

Absolutely! We welcome parent volunteers as often as your time allows and guests with knowledge and experiences that our students may benefit from. Please reach out to Leila to share when you would like to volunteer.
